CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Education (Secondary) will prepare you as a well-rounded graduate that qualifies for professional registration as a teacher throughout Australia.
The course includes 125 days of planned teaching practice in secondary schools plus other opportunities for you to apply theoretical knowledge in practical ways. You will also develop the skills required to teach effectively in a wide range of contemporary educational settings.
During your studies, you will choose two teaching disciplines to focus on, such as accounting, biology (including year 7 – 10 science), business, chemistry (including year 7 to 10 science), english, geography, health and physical education (including year 7 – 10 HPE and year 11 – 12 physical education), history, home economics and hospitality, industrial technology and design and mathematics.
On completion of a Bachelor of Education (Secondary), you will be qualified to teach two specialist areas within secondary schools to Year 12. Like most professions, teaching has specific workforce demands and sometimes oversupply. Before undertaking a course of study, you should check with major employers regarding potential employment prospects.
A Bachelor of Education (Secondary) provides you with the professional knowledge, skills and engagement outlined in the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (Graduate Career stage). As a graduate you will be eligible to apply for provisional registration administered in Queensland by the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).
Students undertaking an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) course are expected to undertake and meet the benchmark in the personal Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE). These two tests (one literacy and one numeracy) are part of the accreditation requirements of this course and there is an expectation that students enrolled in an ITE course will be undertaking the tests and successfully meet the benchmarks prior to graduation. For further information about the LANTITE including how to register please refer to https://teacheredtest.acer.edu.au/.
