Zoologists focus on the behavior, health, and life processes of animals. Some study live animals in controlled or natural surroundings, while others study the structure and function of animal cells, tissues, and organ systems. Zoological research applies to farming, medicine, pharmacology, wildlife conservation, pest control, and much more. At CSU, students pursue a foundation in biology, chemistry, and mathematics and then can immerse themselves in specialized areas, including animal behavior, aquatic biology, ecology, genetics and evolution, and cellular/molecular biology and physiology. Students planning to attend veterinary school often major in zoology.
